HireVue
Games of about 3 minutes each, a recorded video interview, or both.
Format
- Games: HireVue says each one takes about 3 minutes and suggests setting aside around 30 minutes. They start with easy levels, and you move up or down depending on how you do.
- Video: HireVue says most interviews have 5 to 8 questions with several minutes for each answer, and suggests setting aside 45 minutes.
- Games run in a desktop browser or in the HireVue app on a phone.
Rules to know
- The video invitation has a practice option. HireVue says practice questions are not recorded or seen by anyone, and you can do as many as you like.
- Games are randomised, so the order you get will differ from what friends describe.
Where practice helps
Helps
For the games, a few rounds of similar tasks make the rules familiar, so the timed levels do not surprise you. For the video, recording yourself and watching it back fixes pacing and eye contact.
Does not help
HireVue says there is no way to study for the video questions themselves. Having a few real stories ready helps more than memorised answers.
A 20-minute plan for the day before
- 5 minDo the practice question in your invitation, then watch the recording back.
- 10 minNote four short stories: a team problem, a mistake you fixed, a tight deadline, a time you led.
- 5 minCamera at eye level, light in front of you, phone on silent.
